3rd Quarter 2025 Recap (July-September)

July found me camping at my favorite place in Maine, Oceanfront Camping at Reach Knolls (OCRK) surrounded by friends and fellow campers. Most of the time I am moving around the country daily exploring and finding new place to experience, but summer has become a time of rest and recharging for the adventures ahead.

I had a great time celebrating our county’s 249th birthday at the Brooklin, ME 4th of July Parade. It was small town fun the old school way. Fire trucks, old cars, homemade floats, and locals throwing candy to the spectators! It was a lot of fun and reminded me of growing up in my small town in South Jersey, good memories.

I took a day day trip with my buddy Peter to Liberty Tools in Liberty Maine. It was a neat day exploring all the old tools in the store and reminded me of my dad’s workshop with all the hand tools and various bits and bobs laying around. Good memories for sure. Dad kept everything and always found a use for it.

My buddy from Virginia, Skip and his wife stayed at the campground for a few days and it was fun reconnecting with him and catching up on all the happenings back in VA. It was a short visit but a good one for sure!

I spent the last part of July preparing for my great adventure to Newfoundland, prepping the RV and mapping out places to visit on ‘The Rock’.

My travel buddy, Tim arrived at the campground and we made final preparations for the journey to the Maritime Provinces of Canada. With our water tanks filled and pantries stocked we left OCRK on the 30th of July excited about the journey ahead!

We crossed into Canada without any issues and started our streak of waterfront boondocking sites. I think we had waterfront sites for all but one night on our 5 week visit to Canada.

We had a great time exploring New Brunswick and Nova Scotia on our way to the ferry that would take us across to Newfoundland. It normally would be a day and a half drive to the ferry dock but Tim and I found a way to turn it into a 8 day adventure, the Tim Horton and Dairy Queen stops slowed us down a bit apparently.

My ferry departed a day and a half ahead of Tim’s so after arriving in Newfoundland, I stayed at a campground waiting for Tim and his great traveling dog Keegan to arrive. With everything ready to go we set out to explore this amazing province, learn about its rich history, see and photograph the amazing sites and met the wonderful people that call Newfoundland home!

We spent 4+ weeks exploring the island, meeting really cool people and marveling at the beauty of this island. The ocean, the cliffs, the rock formations, the crazy bumpy roads, a few dirt roads, the fish shacks, the colorful homes, the native animals, and the miles and miles of untouched forests. It is an amazing place with surprises around ever turn and over every hill and ridge!

I am working on a more detailed trip report for those that want to know more so they can plan their travels to Newfoundland.

A few highlights

  • The people were awesome, so friendly and giving. Tim and I would plan to drive about 2-3 hours a day to get to our next stop. This short drive would typically end up taking 7-8 hours since we were stopping all the time to talk to the locals and hear their stories…just amazing.
  • The ocean and the waves crashing on the rocks stimulated all your senses. It was incredible.
  • We met a lot of fishermen and not surprisingly they had great stories.
  • We had unlimited things to photograph, the buildings, the water, the trails, the trees, the people, the animals…everything was perfect!
  • On the ferry ride back to Nova Scotia I booked the ferry again for next June. A little earlier in the season to hopefully catch the whales feeding in the bays and see more icebergs! I’m already counting the days, but there is so much to explore as I travel west for the winter season so I will take the time to appreciate all the beauty and people of the USA.

We arrived back to Reach Knolls to rest for a few days and decompress from our epic adventure. Tim and Keegan left to head back to Tennessee and I left shortly after them to Destinations Unknown.

I traveled down the coast and had a short nice visit with my old work colleague Jim and then to Rhode Island hitting state #47 and then had to make a decision, go further south to Virginia or turn right and head west. It was a difficult decision but I decided to turn right!, Head West Old Man! The rainy weather was a convincing factor in that decision. I’ll miss visiting my friends in Virginia but I will be back!

After an amazing summer, I just needed some solo time to reflect on the wonderful summer adventures, hiking in Maine, my dear friends at OCRK, enjoying a brief visit with my niece and her family when they were beginning their summer vacation in Bar Harbor and so many more great adventures and memories.

On my westward move I visited PA, WV, KY, OH and finally Indiana where I am now. Indiana is the 48th state I’ve visited in my RV and like the other 47 it hasn’t disappointed! I am staying in a National Forest Campground for a few nights enjoying nature! And bonus, it’s free!

I’m starting the last 3 months of 2025 visiting my friends, Ed and Mary at a nomad event in Illinois and then heading further west to Zion National Park to attempt to hike Angels Landing, one of the top 3 most dangerous hikes in the country…1000 foot steep cliffs on both sides of the trail which is only a few feet wide in places. I need to check to see if I am still afraid of heights!

I am so grateful to be able to live this nomad life, I am grateful for all my friends (old and new), I am grateful for everyone that has followed my adventure and has cheered me on, and grateful to be able to share our beautiful country with you through my pictures and writings (ramblings).
